Time get rid of Neely. Yeah he was a hero as a player but enough of the good old boys. Time to go.. If they do can Julien he could have a job within 24 hours if he wanted

1-Need to identify all potential top pairing Defenseman that would instantly make this team better. And would be solid, under contract/RFA for at least 2-3 seasons.

2-Identify those teams that have those players that will be in salary trouble AND already have defensive depth.

3-Use draft picks to grab them if possible.........use Krejci and Rask next as trade pieces. Maybe Krug as well.

4-Try to trade Erikssons rights to Nashville for Vesey's rights and try to sign him.

5-Chara, Seidenberg, Connolly, Hayes, one of K. Miller or McQuaid (both if a healthier version can be found) should probably be shopped.

6-Find a couple "Fat Nutz" players. (Weber for Krejci a possible trade? Spitballing here.)

7-that's to start..........

God, he absolutely should. He brought this team -- the first year with an injured Chara and with Hamilton out of the lineup and this season with 11 different defensemen and almost no secondary scoring -- to within one win of postseason play.

Maybe Sweeney should target Dougie Hamilton from Calgary. He has top pairing potential.

Leafs: golf... then again with all the golf the leafs get to play, they might become two sport professionals... so they got that going for them. I guess?

I agree with you that CJ squeezed every drop he could out of a marginal team.
However, the effort I saw today has me wondering if maybe CJ is unable to motivate this team anymore.
Anyway, the reality is that outside 37, 46, 63 we don't have a lot of top 6 forwards on this team. Pasternak is progressing well, but is still growing and learning.
Eriksson had a good season, but I definitely would let him go, for cap reasons (He'll want 6mil at least with a longer term contract) and for the reason that I never felt he was a good fit with Krejci or Bergy in the top 6. Better to spend the cap money on defense.
Spooner was a passable 3rd line center and Beleskey was a solid free agent acquisition, but is a borderline top 6 forward.
The rest of our forwards, Hayes and Connolly were disappointments, Vatrano, Acciari, Ferraro are 4th liners, effective but limited in the roles they can perform.
Our D is not good, Chara and Seidenburg are finished as top paring D-men, K Miller and Quader are 3rd pairing d's, Krug without a significant offensive contribution is more of a liability then a asset. The rest of our D are all borderline NHLers at this point.
Rask definitely had a sub par season but I was impressed with the Monster and would like to see him back if Subban or Smith are unable make the jump to the NHL.
Well, another long off-season to analyze and contemplate what went wrong and how the future will shape up.
But this being out of the play-offs freakin sucks!!

THAT'S IT!! I'M DONE WITH THIS TEAM!!
